Ninja Spinner, Abyss Eye & Storm Emeralda Officially Revealed — Japan’s Mega Evolution Era Begins This March

Mega Greninja ex Ninja Spinner Japanese M4 set card

The next era of Mega Evolution has officially been unveiled for the Japanese Pokémon TCG. Creatures has announced Ninja Spinner, the upcoming M4 expansion headlined by Greninja in its powerful Mega form. The set launches in Japan on March 13, 2026, kicking off a multi-set storyline that continues through summer.

But that’s not all — we also now have confirmed release dates for two follow-up expansions: Abyss Eye and Storm Emeralda, featuring Mega Darkrai ex and Mega Rayquaza ex.

Ninja Spinner (M4) — March 13, 2026

Ninja Spinner will contain 83 main set cards, which typically suggests an additional 35–40 Secret Rares, putting the total set size at roughly 120 cards.

The expansion continues spotlighting Mega Evolutions introduced in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, though it will not yet incorporate the newer Mega forms from the December Mega Dimension DLC.

Headliner: Mega Greninja ex

Mega Greninja ex – Water – HP 350

  • Ability: Mortal Shuriken – Discard a Basic Water Energy to place 6 damage counters on one of your opponent’s Pokémon.

  • Ninja Spinner – 120+ damage, with the option to return a Water Energy to your hand to deal 80 additional damage.

  • Mega Evolution ex rule – When Knocked Out, your opponent takes 3 Prize cards.

With built-in spread pressure and scalable damage output, Mega Greninja ex looks positioned to anchor Water decks immediately upon release.

Kalos Starters Return

Ninja Spinner prominently features the Kalos starter lines:

  • Chespin → Quilladin → Chesnaught

  • Fennekin → Braixen → Delphox

  • Froakie → Frogadier → Mega Greninja ex

Notably, Quilladin receives its first card since 2015, ending a decade-long absence. According to longtime community tracking, this briefly made it the “most forgotten Pokémon” in the TCG — a title now passed to Brionne, whose last card released in 2018.

Standout Cards

Chesnaught – Features Needle Armor, punishing attackers based on attached Grass Energy.

Delphox – Its Flare Magic Ability enables explosive draw power by discarding Fire Energy.Big Catch Net – Recovers Water Pokémon and Basic Water Energy from the discard pile.

AZ’s Tranquility – A flexible switching Supporter that heals Pokémon ex.Bubble Water Energy – Grants immunity to Special Conditions while attached.

English Release: Chaos Rising

We’ll receive cards from Ninja Spinner in our English set Chaos Rising, scheduled for May 22, 2026. Product images and official details have yet to be revealed, but preorders are expected to open in early March.

Abyss Eye & Storm Emeralda Officially Dated

Following Ninja Spinner, two additional Japanese expansions have now been confirmed:

Abyss Eye — May 22, 2026

Headliner: Darkrai (Mega Darkrai ex)

Storm Emeralda — July 31, 2026

Headliner: Rayquaza (Mega Rayquaza ex)

Both sets were first discovered through trademarks in June 2025 — meaning there will be an unprecedented 11–13 month gap between trademark discovery and release.

Based on naming and storyline connections, these expansions are expected to incorporate the newer Mega Evolutions introduced in the Mega Dimension DLC, pushing the TCG further into the modern Mega era.

Celebration Collection on the Horizon?

The only remaining unrevealed trademark is Celebration Collection, widely believed to be Japan’s 30th anniversary TCG expansion.

For historical context:

  • Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary released in September 2016.

  • 25th Anniversary Collection launched in October 2021.

  • The Pokémon TCG originally debuted in October 1996.

If the pattern holds, Celebration Collection could arrive in September or October 2026.

Japan’s Updated 2026 TCG Schedule

  • March 13 – Ninja Spinner (Mega Greninja ex)

  • May 22 – Abyss Eye (Mega Darkrai ex)

  • July 31 – Storm Emeralda (Mega Rayquaza ex)

  • Fall 2026 (TBA) – Celebration Collection (30th Anniversary)

With three Mega-powered expansions lined up and an anniversary set looming, 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most aggressive and nostalgia-driven release years in Pokémon TCG history.
